Nina’s Garden Herbals

Herbs | Vegetables | Flowers

Herbs, vegetables and flowers grown using organic and biodynamic techniques…

Welcome to Nina’s Garden Herbals. We are new to this part of the world but our business has been operating down under in Australia since 2012. Life on Banyan View Farm started out small with 8 head of cattle but over the years, progressed to sheep, lambs, chickens, market gardens, orchards and medicinal herbs-quite the adventure!

I have had a robust “hands on” education in farming over the past decade and have come away with a whole set of life skills and practical advice to give to folks who want to go down the path of self-sufficiency. Nina’s Garden Herbals is now centred around helping people to grow things and learn lots.

A herbal journey

At the core of my business, is the passion for growing herbs and making herbal remedies for the everyday challenges of maintaining good health and wellbeing.

A thorough understanding of Biodynamic principles, using organic approaches for pest and weed management and enlisting the help of our natural allies are key components to success.

In the past, I did not use chemical pesticides or insecticides to keep my plants healthy and productive. I enlisted the help of the local wrens, finches and wagtails and predatory insects along with native bees to keep everyone in tip top shape!

A diversity of plants with different smells and colours helped to confuse the cabbage white moth and mystify the crowds of aphids and whitefly that can plague high intensity monocultures.

From my garden, leaves, flowers, roots and seeds of culinary and medicinal herbs were gathered at the right time of the lunar cycle to capture the very essence of the plant!

These materials were dried, infused, decocted and blended to make a range of herbal remedies that are safe on the skin of the old and the new and gentle enough to be drunk as a tea or sipped as a syrup when coughs, common colds and indigestion come to visit. These are traditional remedies that have been used for centuries and are made with simple ingredients and natural preservatives where needed.

So, we are starting again here in the land of my birth, and I would be honoured to take you all on this journey too. Sign up for newsletters to see how my new garden and orchard evolve and keep an eye out for workshops that will be coming online later in 2024.
